Class photo from Peckham Road school in the 1940s.

From the memories of Brian Scott on Voices of Kingstanding. Brian is third from the left on the bottom row.

Notes

The 1940s date comes from the Voices of Kingstanding caption. A commenter who started at the school in 1941 questioned it because the girls appear to be in uniform; another former pupil recalls that council-school children had no uniforms at the time.

Local memories

What people who knew this place have said about it, in their own words. These are memories, not checked facts.

“now the penultimate photo above,, I cannot understand the school uniforms that the girls seem to be wearing… School uniforms were certainly not in the `40` unless it was the late `40`s it was war time, and our parents could barely manage to dress us let alone school uniforms.”

“Nobody had uniforms at council schools in those days, We were lucky to have a pair of shorts with out holes in them.”
