What is Pride in Place?
Pride in Place is a national programme announced by the Government in September 2025, putting £5 billion into communities across the UK. It's designed to give long-term, reliable funding to neighbourhoods so local people can take visible pride in the places they share.
Kingstanding South East was selected as one of 339 areas nationally — and one of eight in Birmingham, alongside Hawkesley, Druids Heath, Glebe Farm, Woodgate, Sparkbrook North, Fox Hollies and Nechells. The area will receive around £2 million every year for ten years.
Crucially, the money isn't spent by Whitehall — a local board of residents and community leaders helps decide what the area needs most.

The area it covers
The Pride in Place neighbourhood is the area officially known as Kingstanding South East — the shaded zone on the map. It covers the south-eastern part of Kingstanding, taking in the streets around Kingstanding Circle and reaching towards Hawthorn Road and the Dyas Road area.
This is the real statistical boundary (ONS area E02001837), home to roughly 10,500 people. Some residents have questioned where the line has been drawn, noting that nearby parades with empty shops sit just outside it.

A local Neighbourhood Board
A board of local residents, councillors and community leaders shapes a shared vision for the area and guides where the money goes — chaired locally by Paulette Hamilton MP.
An independent Chair
Birmingham City Council is recruiting independent Neighbourhood Chairs to help lead the community boards in each Pride in Place area.
Your voice counts
The whole point is that local people decide. Residents and community groups will be able to shape how and where the funds are spent.
What the funding could pay for
Nothing is fixed yet — these are the kinds of things Pride in Place money is designed to support. What actually gets funded in Kingstanding will be decided locally.
High streets & shopfronts
Reviving local shopping parades, bringing empty shops and derelict buildings back into use, and improving how the high street looks and feels.
Parks & green spaces
Restoring and looking after local parks, greens and play areas — including new and replacement play equipment.
Youth & community spaces
Reopening and supporting youth centres, community halls, pubs and leisure facilities that bring people together.
Safer streets
Tackling crime and antisocial behaviour, with new powers to push back on things like gambling outlets and dodgy vape shops.
Buildings & public realm
Improving the buildings and public spaces residents use every day, so the area feels cared for and welcoming.
Stronger communities
Backing local groups and projects that help people feel proud of where they live and connected to their neighbours.
