How it started
Kingstanding Litter Busters was started in January 2026 by a member of the Kingstanding Together committee who was fed up with the sheer amount of litter seen every day on dog walks around Kingstanding — particularly on Kingstanding Beacon (known locally as “the Pimple”), Conker Island and the streets around them.
It began on 18 January 2026 as a simple Facebook page, sharing pictures and videos of individual litter picks. It didn’t stay a one-person effort for long.
The first Big Clean Up
The first group litter pick was a Big Clean Up of Kingstanding Beacon on 21 February 2026. A handful of volunteers turned out that morning and collected about 20 bags of litter.
Since then
Our volunteers have kept going — litter picking in their own time as individuals, and together at organised group litter picks, usually every fortnight. Between them they have removed hundreds of bags of litter and fly-tipping from Kingstanding’s streets, verges, paths and parks.
Every bag collected is one less on our pavements and green spaces. And every litter pick shows that local people care about where they live — which is exactly what Kingstanding Together is about.
Part of Kingstanding Together
Litter Busters is a project of the Kingstanding Together community association. Its aims were written into the association’s constitution from the start: the first two of our objects are to improve the cleanliness, care and appearance of our streets and public spaces — including volunteer litter collection — and to protect and improve our parks and green spaces.
Join a litter pick
Anyone can take part, and no experience is needed. Come to a group litter pick, pick up a few bits on your own daily walk, or tell us about a litter hot spot near you. Details of upcoming litter picks are posted on the Kingstanding Litter Busters Facebook group.
