Anyone can create a free account on kingstanding.org to post on the community feed, comment, like things and share photos. It’s a place for neighbours to remember, identify old photos, swap local knowledge and look after the area together. These guidelines keep it that way.
The house rules
- Be kind. Disagree with ideas, not people. No insults, bullying, harassment or threats.
- No hate. Nothing that attacks people for their race, religion, nationality, disability, sex, sexuality, gender identity or age.
- Keep it family-friendly. No swearing or sexual content.
- Protect people’s privacy. Don’t post phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses or anything that could identify a private person without their agreement. Don’t accuse named people of crimes.
- Keep it local and on topic. Kingstanding Together is not a political group: no election campaigning, party promotion or advertising.
- Only share what you’re allowed to. Photos you took, family photos, or ones you have permission for — not pictures copied from books, newspapers or other websites.
- Nothing illegal, and nothing that tells people how to break the law.
How moderation works
Posts and comments go live straight away, so we check them automatically first. A post or comment is turned away — with a message saying why — if it contains swearing or slurs, reads as a threat, includes a phone number or email address, or is written all in capitals. New accounts can’t post links for their first few days, and there are limits on how often anyone can post.
If you see something that breaks the rules, use Report on the post or comment. Reports go to our volunteer moderators, and anything reported by three different people is hidden until someone has looked at it. Moderators can remove posts and comments and suspend accounts that break these guidelines.
Photos you share go into the Heritage Archive straight away. Our volunteers see every new photo and take down anything that breaks these guidelines. Every photo page has a Report this picture link. The same goes for photos added to feed posts and for profile photos: volunteers see each new one, and remove any that break these rules.
#Tags and @mentions
Put a # in front of a word to tag a topic — #odeon, #litterpick, #1960s — and it links to a page of everything with that tag. Type @ and start a name to mention someone; they get a notification. Please mention people only in a friendly way: repeatedly mentioning someone who hasn’t asked you to is harassment, and moderators will act on it. Members of Kingstanding Together can only be mentioned on the public site once they’ve posted here themselves, under the name they use here.
Upvotes and likes
Upvote comments that are helpful or interesting — the most upvoted rise to the top. Like the photos, streets, places and pages you enjoy. You can see how many people liked something, but not who.
Photos you share
You keep the copyright in your photos. By sharing one, you give Kingstanding Together permission to show it on kingstanding.org and in not-for-profit local history displays, credited as you asked. If you change your mind, contact us and we’ll take it down. If you think a photo on the site is yours and shouldn’t be here, tell us the same way and we’ll act quickly.
Your account and your information
When you create an account we keep:
- your display name, which is shown next to your posts, comments and photos;
- your profile photo, if you add one — shown next to your posts and comments, for anyone to see;
- your email address, which is never shown to anyone and is only used to confirm your account, reset your password, and contact you about your account if we need to;
- your password, stored only in a scrambled form that nobody (including us) can read;
- what you post: feed posts, comments, upvotes, likes, reports and photos, with the dates you posted them, plus the people you @mention and the #tags you use;
- what you add in Discussions, Events and Ideas (the app at /members, which free accounts can use alongside members): your threads and replies, events and RSVPs, ideas and likes. These are seen by everyone signed in to the site — members and free accounts — under your display name, never by the public. Only members can back ideas;
- notifications we show you (replies, likes, mentions);
- your postcode, only if you choose to add one for “My area”. It’s used to show you local information — your ward, councillors, meetings and planning near you — and is never shown publicly or used for advertising. You can change or remove it at any time from your account page.
Kingstanding Together is responsible for this information. We use it to run the comments and photo sharing, which you ask us to do by signing up, and to keep the site safe. We don’t sell it, share it for marketing, or use advertising trackers. Emails are sent through our email provider, Brevo, and the anti-spam check at sign-up is provided by Cloudflare Turnstile. Signing in uses two small cookies that are essential for it to work; they are removed when you sign out.
You can change your display name or password, or delete your account, at any time from your account page. Deleting it removes your email address, posts, comments, likes and profile photo straight away. For anything else — a copy of your information, or a correction — contact us. Our privacy policy has more about how the group handles information.
You need to be 13 or over to have an account.
Problems and complaints
To report something urgently, or if you disagree with a moderation decision, contact us and tell us which page it’s on. We aim to reply within a few days. If something is an immediate danger to someone, call 999.
