Our heritage work
Our Landmarks & Heritage pages tell the story of Kingstanding’s places. Heritage & Conservation is what Kingstanding Together actively does about them: researching and recording local history, sharing it, and speaking up for the buildings and places that deserve protecting.
Recording and sharing
We publish historic photographs, maps and plans in our Heritage Archive, each credited to its source, and gather residents’ own memories and photographs through Voices of Kingstanding. We research overlooked parts of our history — such as the night in August 1940 when ten people were killed in Kingstanding — and tell those stories carefully and accurately.
Protecting what matters
We research the history of the inter-war estate and its buildings with a view to local heritage recognition, and we campaign for landmarks at risk. The former Odeon on Kings Road, a Grade II listed Art Deco cinema, is the focus of our Save the Odeon campaign.
