New council houses on College Road (coloured postcard)
Catalogued as 1930–40; the scene looks like the late 1920s · College Road
'318/1 College Road': a hand-coloured postcard of brand-new council houses on College Road, probably the Perry Common estate in the 1920s.
Postcard numbered 318/1 and titled 'College Road'. It shows long brick terraces and a pair of semi-detached council houses with hipped roofs, bay windows and tall chimneys, freshly built behind low fences. The road and verges in front are still rough and unsurfaced.
Notes
Birmingham Museums Trust catalogues it as 'Postcard - College Road, Erdington, Birmingham, 1930-40' (Kesterton Collection 1995V632.223). It is part of the Kesterton run 1995V632.219–231 which covers Perry Common and Kingstanding (Witton Lodge Road, Dovedale Road, Hastings Road, Golden Cross, Kings Road, Kettlehouse Road), several of which are already in the archive. 'Erdington' indicates the Warwickshire (east) side of College Road, i.e. Perry Common. The house style (early 1920s Corporation cottages) and the unmade road suggest the 1920s Perry Common estate rather than 1930–40; the exact stretch is not identified.
