Notes
Photographer's caption: 'The oldest part of this unusual building dates from 1752, when it was built for the local Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas Hornyhold'. It was Oscott College until the move to New Oscott in 1838, and was renamed Maryvale by John Henry Newman in 1846. Appears as 'Oscott House' and 'Maryvale R.C. Orphanage' on the 1880s and 1904 maps in this batch.
