Sheet BB 23d of the German Army's 'Stadtplan von Birmingham', prepared for the planned invasion of Britain. Violet outlines mark the Kynoch munitions works and GEC Witton, just south of Kingstanding.

The complete sheet: Perry Barr, Witton, Aston, Nechells, Saltley and Gravelly Hill at 1:10,000, with the German legend and list of targets ('Einzelobjekte').

Notes

Part of the German General Staff's 'Militärgeographische Einzelangaben über England', the town plans prepared for Operation Sea Lion. The sheet is marked 'Sonderausgabe, Ausgabe Nr. 2, Stand 1941' and 'Militärgeogr. Angaben nach den bis zum 31. XII. 1941 vorhandenen Unterlagen' (information up to 31 Dec 1941). It is an enlargement of the OS six-inch map overprinted in violet and red. The numbered objects on BB 23d include 3 'Witton Kynoch's Werke, Munitionsfabrik' (the Lion Ammunition Works and Holford Mills) and 4 'Siemens & General Electric Co. Ltd., Elektrische Maschinen' (GEC Witton), plus Perry Barr, Birmingham City Cemetery (Witton), Upper Witton Reservoir and Salford Park. Coverage: the nine Birmingham sheets, BB 23a–i, stop at about the latitude of Witton Lakes. None covers the Kingstanding estate itself; the northern edge of BB 23d reaches Perry Barr, Witton Cemetery and Upper Witton Reservoir. Location: confirmed from the sheet labels.
