Father Byrne – first priest.

One of the photographs “from the church archive” published on Voices of Kingstanding’s Christ the King page in November 2012, alongside a short history of the parish written for its eightieth anniversary.

The parish history there records Fr Michael Byrne as parish priest from 1932 to 1941. Kathleen McCarty remembers: “Fr Byrne was a young man of 32 when he came to Kingstanding as the first parish priest … He was in Kingstanding when the air raids were on, he used to walk around the parish during the night to visit people … In 1941, he moved from the parish to go to serve as a chaplain in the army.”
