I had a black metal money box, with a gilt handle from the Municipal Bank where I saved some of my pocket money in the 1950’s. It had to be taken to the bank to be opened and the money deposited.

When my parents were young they lived in the Inner City, my father lived at Berners Street, Lozells, and he met my mother when her family also moved to Berners Street.

Both my father and my mother were bowlers and played in the pub teams. Most pubs had bowling greens in those days. At the Kingstanding the green was off to one side, near the King’s Road.
