Ripley & Heanor News, 11 October 2012.

The article, by Paul Lynch, reports Chris Hillcox’s appeal for memories of the Second World War evacuees from Kingstanding who were housed in the Ripley and Swanwick area. It says the children probably arrived in 1941 and 1942 from Peckham Road, Cranbourne Road and Kingsland schools, and illustrates the story with the Swanwick evacuees photograph of 1941.

A second piece, “Evacuation gave me ‘real love of Derbyshire’”, says the decision to evacuate Kingstanding children to Ripley and Heanor was taken after a stray bomb hit a water main, and quotes Brian Scott, who spent three years with a family in Ironville: “I have nothing but happy, loving thoughts of the three years I spent there.”
