The Waggon and Horses at Handsworth, as engraved for Samuel Smiles in 1865. Smiles told how a Soho pattern maker chalked a crank on a table here and was overheard by a spy, a story he introduced with “it is said”. Watt’s own account names only an unnamed workman.
