Grove off Hurlingham Road
1931 (from the catalogue title)
Share
A grove off Hurlingham Road. One of the greatest assets of these new houses were said to be the front and back gardens. Most people used the back gardens to grow vegetables to some degree; an estate report noted that corner houses were disadvantaged in this respect as this left their sizeable side gardens prone to theft of the produce as well as the embarrassment of being seen to garden in full view of the road and neighbours!
Notes
The same photograph is also held by the Library of Birmingham as 3/1235 (“Hurlingham Road, Kingstanding”, dated Not Recorded). The two records do not fully agree; the details here follow this record. A plate in the Hurlingham Road Local List nomination (IMG-004).
