Ealing Grove council depot today.

The Corporation yard at the bottom of Ealing Grove. Readers of Voices of Kingstanding remember the steamrollers and lorries that used it, and a coronation party held there in 1953.

Local memories

What people who knew this place have said about it, in their own words. These are memories, not checked facts.

“Ealing Grove was our playground along with The Gulley or The Pimple. The Corporation Yard was at the bottom of the grove and we used to wait for the two steamrollers, one little and a much larger one which rumbled loudly and shook the ground in its wake. Many lorries came and went carrying sand and salt in winter.”

— Valerie Lockley, 29 January 2014, Voices of Kingstanding

“Remember the party in the corporation yard for the Coronation celebrations? … There were races down Sidcup Road for the youngsters. Also a fancy dress competition.”

— S Nicholls, 15 February 2016, Voices of Kingstanding
