One of the many company photos.

Voices of Kingstanding explains that the 1st A Birmingham company, based at the People’s Chapel in Hockley, “started a branch at Kingstanding in the 1930’s when the estate was developed”, meeting at Kingsland Road School and attached to John Bunyan Baptist Church, Lambeth Road. The Kingstanding part became independent in the 1960s as the 11th Birmingham.

Notes

Undated. The building is not identified; one reader thinks it is the old Odeon on the Circle, but that is untested. The image is small (453 px).

Local memories

What people who knew this place have said about it, in their own words. These are memories, not checked facts.

“The picture at the top of your item appears to be the old Odeon Cinema on the Circle. The nearest Boys Brigade Company to the Circle was the 29th which was based at Kings Road Methodist Church, very nearby.”
