It made me so proud to read your comment about the doorman at the Mayfair and his uniform. My Uncle,Allbert Harrison was the doorman there for most of his life.1930s,40s,and some of the 50s He was a very gentle simple man and loved his heavily braided uniform which was pressed daily and kept immaculate by my aunt Edith. They lived opposite the cinema on College Road,
I remember after visits there my mother used to comment about the problems he had with children” forever sneaking in, banging the side fire doors and playing up”
I was born in 1937 in College Road but moved in the same year to Sutton
