Floss’s corner at the Hare and Hounds

told by John Bailey

CommunitySport

Oh yes, remember the Hare and Hounds so well, virtually lived there. My dad, Bill Bailey (wont you come home) was the secretary of everything there; bowls, crib, darts, fishing, run the OAP club and bingo. I bowled with my mom and dad and played every Wednesday and Saturday, loved that bowls club. My uncle Jack used to be the green keeper. Remember old Ted Lowe, lovely old guy and my Nan, Floss McKenzie used to prop up the bar in the corner, known as Floss’s corner. Had many happy memories climbing those flights of steps at the back, exploring the grounds. Does anyone remember the piggery next to the post office where Rushden Croft is now, I went to school with their son at Cranbourne Road and I only lived just 100 yards down the road on Kingstanding Road. Also did a paper round from the PO, then went to Perry Common comp The year after it first opened Loved those days
