I was in Mr Martin’s class. I left to go to Perry Common in 1976. My mom was a dinner lady used to walk round the school with kids holding her hands. Mrs Priest and Mrs Sommerville also dinner ladies. Mom followed me to Perry Common to work in school kitchen – probably to keep her eyes on me!
Used to walk up walls in the outside toilet block by leaning against one wall and walking legs on opposite side. Always played football with the boys and Wendy Gregory but seem to remember Mr Evans split boys and girls up to play in separate playgrounds.
Also played days of week on the steps by the wooden huts but twisted my ankle jumping from top (Sunday) to bottom (Saturday). Went to Mr Evans office where he proceeded to wiggle my foot about so I screamed with pain. He must have thought I was lying!
James Bond was in my class. He ended up being my hero when he freed my foot from being stuck on a wooden slatted roof at Tamworth Castle. Mr Pope was another teacher – I had guitar lessons with him. Seem to remember James threatening to bring his dad down to see Mr Pope and Mr Pope said “I’ll bring my dad and he’s bigger than yours”. The things you remember eh?!

My name is Valerie and I lived in Caversham Road just a few doors away from St Luke’s church when I was a child. I remember the vicar Richard Butler and his wife who was our local GP for many years.

I used to live in Cranbourne Grove and went to Kingsthorne infants and juniors. I remember it being a lovely school and being very happy there. I would have started school about 1972.
