A ha’penny cob after the baths

told by Michael Dickerson

Growing UpLocal Businesses

Born in 1946 in Danesbury Crescent. Remember the Club because my grandad used to drink there when I was a child. Went to the baths often. Also remember the shops right next door to the baths. Home and Colonial, Cobblers, Greengrocers, Sweet shop and a Bakery before a Fish and chips shop. After the baths used to buy a 1/2 penny cob from the bakery. People around us were the Mallens, Radfords, Shepperds, Andrews, Dickerson and Swains. Remember Arthur Swain and his brother was our local Rag and bone man. They kept their horse in a stable on the field behind the house. Such fond memories.
