Burford Road Playing Fields are open green playing fields in the middle of Kingstanding — room to run, play and walk, and one of the everyday green spaces that give the area its breathing room.
Why green space matters here
In 1939, researchers studying Kingstanding praised its “wide tree-lined streets and several parks and playgrounds”, and found that families who had grown up in the crowded city centre “laid great store by their patch of grass”.
Help us tell its story
We are still gathering the history of the playing fields — when they were laid out, the matches and fêtes held there, and what they mean to people today. If you have memories or old photographs, please share them with us.
